books, words, and libraries

books and martinis...

I have always loved libraries. In that respect, I see myself a little bit like Borges, who went so far as to work in a library... What I love about Borges is his absolute reverence for the written word, and the way he creates these wonderful encyclopedic tales that are layers of fantasy and reality.

As a kid, I always hung around libraries, and have vivid memories of each one. Books to me were as precious as loved ones - I woke up to pull one from under my pillow, I ate with my books, took walks with my books, and usually fell asleep reading books. To this day, if you want to really move me, it has to be with words, there's no other way. Words to me are beautiful mysteries that make life worthwhile...

I'm with you! I love libraries and I love building my own personal library. One of my friends who I hadn't seen in a while came to town and after getting the grand tour of my abode asked if I spent more on rent or books. Rent won, of course, but if I had my way, it would have been the book budget!

Ha, I dream of creating "a library of my own", too! I was so sad when I moved from Texas and had to box up all my books, I still miss them! :)

I don't think I could have done it. I have a hard enough time turning magazines over to the recycling bin. I'm starting to think I have issues.

I'm just as in love with books. In my free time you can find me at the library, the bookstore (used or new) or at the thrift shops in the book section!

I once went to a professor's house for dinner party with a group of students and everyone's heart fluttered when we noticed he had his own library. The whole evening was spent pulling out every book and examining it with careful reverence.

It was a beautiful sight indeed!

Oh i love books! I have a weekly trip to my library, and am a sucker for bookstores and buying books even when i can't afford them. The passion goes deep. It is true love. You know, i was just thinking the other day that books were just about the best things ever created.

I worked in libraries growing up and I have books squirreled away in every nook around here. Loved your "bird nerd" nickname - I don't sketch them but I enjoy watching them and I am working on a fab bird applique to post soon.

I have you bookmarked and I cruise by every so often to enjoy your sketching and your stitching. Just thought I'd say hi!

Come by for a visit...

More book addicts! Taryn - I would have been all over that professor's library, too. You know the kind I really crave - the ones you see in movies with the leatherbound books, curvy ladders, and old globes...

Aww Vera, me too. Books have carried me through lots of tough, lonely times in my life.

Cheryl! "Squirreling away" is my passion... so glad you're a visitor here! :)

Hi Pip! He he, my mom used to have to pry me away from my books as a kid... aww... now I'm really missing my books! :)

I've been a librarian for 21 years, and a book dealer for 10 years before that...except for the lack of space, it's a worthy addiction!
